Do you actually haul the waste away, or leave it in my bin?

The Lawn Dogs always hauls waste away in our truck. We never leave it in your trash bin. We load it up, take it with us, and dispose of it properly at approved facilities, so your bins stay odor-free and your yard is truly clear.

This is our single biggest operational differentiator. When you look at other services in Treasure Valley, most of them bag the waste and leave it in your bin. Your trash can then smells like dog waste for a week, attracts flies, and your garage or side yard takes the hit.We load every bag into our truck and haul it to approved disposal facilities. It's more work and more cost on our end, but it's the right way to do it, and our clients notice the difference immediately.

How often should I have my yard scooped?

The Lawn Dogs recommends weekly service for 2+ dogs or large breeds. Every-other-week works well for single-dog households. The average back yard with 2 medium dogs accumulates ~14 pounds of waste per week, weekly service prevents the dangerous buildup problem.

Weekly, most popular. Best for 2+ dogs, large breeds, yards where kids play, and summer months. This is what most of our clients choose.Twice-Weekly (Premium), best for 3+ dogs, very large breeds, or clients who want their yard consistently pristine. Minimal buildup between visits.Every-Other-Week (Budget Friendly), works well for single-dog households or smaller yards. Some clients supplement with their own scooping between visits. Not sure? Start weekly. You can adjust your frequency anytime at no penalty, just text us.

Do I need to be home when you service my yard?

Nope, that's the whole point. The Lawn Dogs clients are almost never home during service. You provide gate access at signup, we handle everything, then send you a photo of your secured gate when we're done. Full confirmation, zero hassle.

You provide your gate access details when you sign up. Gate code, combination lock, or an unlocked gate that we re-latch on the way out, whatever works for you. After every visit we photograph the secured gate and text it to you. All team members are background-checked and arrive in branded uniforms.

Is The Lawn Dogs insured and properly licensed?

Yes. The Lawn Dogs Dog Waste Removal carries full general liability insurance, commercial auto insurance, and workers compensation. We're properly licensed in Idaho, compliant with all waste disposal regulations, and every team member passes a background check before accessing any client property.

You are handing someone access to your back yard, often while you are not home. That is worth asking about, and the answer should be specific rather than reassuring. Everyone on the route is a W-2 employee, background-checked before their first visit, in a branded uniform and a marked truck, so you always know exactly who is back there. The insurance and the licensing sit behind that, not in place of it.

📋 Policies & Access

Gates go back the way we found them. This is the point of the rule.

Can I request a specific time of day for service?

The Lawn Dogs commits to your scheduled service day, not a specific time of day. Arrival windows shift week to week because our routing software optimizes each day's route for efficiency using Google Maps. You'll always get a reminder the night before your visit, and a 30 to 60 minute heads-up text before our team arrives. If you need a specific time, it is available as a paid upgrade on the pricing page.

Every client picks the frequency that fits their yard. Weekly, every other week, twice-weekly, or a once-a-month reset. From there, we assign the service day that fits that frequency into the route for your area. The day stays consistent, and if it ever has to move you get at least 30 days notice. The exact time does not. One Tuesday your yard might be an early-morning stop. The next Tuesday it might be late afternoon. The route flexes so every dog parent gets the frequency they signed up for, on the day we committed to.If you have a specific access concern, like a dog that needs to be inside at a certain hour or a gate that needs to be unlocked at a specific time, text us at 208-248-2098 and we'll work with you whenever we can. On a standard plan we cannot guarantee a time, but we can often accommodate a specific need with advance notice. The real reason we do not sell a time window is that we have lives too. Some mornings we start at 6am to beat the heat. Some we start late because there is lightning. Somebody has a doctor's appointment, or a school pickup, or a kid who needs them. We would rather tell you the day and then text you when we are actually on the way than give you a time and break it. At the end of the day it is just dog poop. We will get it figured out.And if you genuinely need a specific day or time, you can reserve one rather than us telling you no. Picking your own day is $20 a visit. A guaranteed morning or afternoon is $10. A two-hour window you choose is $17. A day and a time can be combined. Ask us before you spend anything, though. We are in most communities several times a week, so there is usually a day that already works.

Why we operate this way

Our route is a mix of weekly, every-other-week, twice-weekly, and monthly clients. The exact lineup of yards on any given route day changes week to week. We build the most efficient route possible for the team and the truck, which keeps service dependable and pricing fair for every client on the route.

What happens if my gate is locked when you arrive?

Service is pre-paid monthly. If we arrive and can't get in due to a locked, blocked, or frozen gate, that visit counts as rendered. We showed up on schedule. No refund is issued. A $5 return trip fee applies if you need us to come back. Easiest fix: add your gate code to your account.

  • Add your gate code or lock combination in your Client Portal
  • If your gate uses a keyed lock, you can leave it unlatched on service days
  • If a lockout happens, contact us, a $5 return trip fee applies to come back

Why we charge for locked-gate visits

We drove to your home on schedule. The inability to access isn't something we can control. Pre-paid service means the visit is counted as rendered. We're always willing to work with you, the easiest long-term solution is sharing your gate code in your Client Portal so we never have this problem.

What if my dog is in the yard or acts aggressively?

The Lawn Dogs happily works around friendly dogs. We cannot work around aggressive animals. If we have to leave due to an aggressive dog, that visit is charged as rendered. Clients are responsible for providing accurate information about their dog's temperament and keeping vaccination records current.

Most of our clients' dogs are friendly and curious, and we love getting to say hi. For dogs that are protective or territorial, please put them inside or in a separate area before your service window. This protects both your dog and our team.

Important safety policy

If a team member is bitten, we leave immediately for medical attention. The visit is charged as rendered and the yard is left as-is. All medical costs are the client's responsibility. We may contact Animal Control depending on the situation. Please be honest about your dog's temperament at signup. It keeps everyone safe.

What if my yard has tall grass, leaves, or debris?

We always do our best to find everything. Tall grass, heavy leaf cover, and debris make waste genuinely hard to spot, some may be missed. The Lawn Dogs will get anything missed on the next scheduled visit once the yard is clear. If it's excessive, email us at scoop@thelawndogs.com right away.

We get it, life happens and yards aren't always perfectly groomed. We're not here to judge, we're here to help. But waste that's buried under 4 inches of leaves or hidden in 8-inch grass is genuinely invisible to us. The more you can keep the lawn trimmed, the better we can serve you.If you notice we missed more than usual, email scoop@thelawndogs.com as soon as possible, ideally the same day. We'll work with you to make it right.

🌨️ Weather & Seasonal

A Lawn Dogs truck with a frost-covered windscreen parked in a driveway before dawn, about to start a winter route
A November morning, before the route. We scoop through the cold.

Does The Lawn Dogs pick up dog poop in winter?

Yes. The Lawn Dogs services year-round including winter and snow. We scoop through cold temperatures and light snow. We only pause service for severe weather that's unsafe for our team or could damage your lawn. Winter is actually our busiest season, everyone discovers what's been hiding under the snow.

Idaho winters are real, and we're built for them. Here's how we handle the cold season:

  • We scoop through cold temperatures, frost, and light to moderate snow
  • We pause during heavy snow accumulation, extreme temperatures, high winds, or flooding
  • Weather skips are caught up on the next scheduled visit. We collect everything from both weeks
  • No refunds are issued for weather skips (your monthly rate stays the same)
Full post: Do you pick up dog poop in the winter? →

Do The Lawn Dogs scoop in the rain?

Yes. The Lawn Dogs has a no-rain-check policy. We scoop through light and moderate rain, the job doesn't stop because it's cloudy. We only skip during severe weather that's unsafe for our team. If the yard is excessively muddy, we may hold off to avoid tearing up your lawn.

Rain is just part of the job in the Pacific Northwest and high desert. A little drizzle doesn't slow us down. The only exceptions are severe thunderstorms with lightning, extreme winds, or conditions that would leave your yard more damaged than clean.

Full post: Our no-rain-check policy →

What happens when a visit is skipped due to weather?

When The Lawn Dogs skips a visit due to severe weather, we resume on your next scheduled date and collect everything, including what accumulated the week we missed. No refund is issued. Your monthly rate stays flat. We need to do the same amount of work on the makeup visit anyway.

If you need the area cleaned before your next scheduled visit, maybe you have guests coming or a kid's birthday party, call or text us at 208-248-2098. We'll do our best to fit you in. We can't always guarantee it, but we always try.

Why there's no refund for weather skips

When we skip a week due to weather, we still collect everything on your next visit, that's two weeks of waste in one stop. The workload is the same, just consolidated. Your monthly rate reflects the full service including these catch-up visits.

Do you scoop when wildfire smoke makes the air quality bad?

The Lawn Dogs pauses service when wildfire smoke makes the air unsafe for our team. Our technicians are outside all day, so smoke reaches them harder than it reaches someone running errands. A smoke skip works like any other weather skip: we collect everything on your next scheduled visit and your monthly rate does not change.

Treasure Valley summers bring smoke, and some stretches are much worse than others. Some summers the air quality index sits in the 200s for weeks at a time. On days like that we make the call the same way we do for lightning or extreme heat. If it is not safe to have our team outside for a full route, we do not send them out. You will hear from us, and nothing is lost. Everything that accumulated gets picked up on your next visit.
